Washington County D.A.R.E Program

$

D.A.R.E was created in 1983 by collaboration between the Los Angeles Unified School Districts and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The program was created because enforcement alone will never curtail the use and abuse of illicit drugs. Prevention and education are vital. D.A.R.E. is a drug abuse resistance education taught by a Uniformed officer/Deputy in schools. D.A.R.E. is a comprehensive K-12 prevention education program. D.A.R.E. education programs delivers science/evidence based curricula that teaches students good decision-making skills that will help them lead safe and healthy lives and cope with high risk circumstances including drugs, alcohol, violence, bullying and internet safety.

The Washington County Sheriff Office has been committed to teaching this program since 1990. We are currently teaching D.A.R.E in Avella, Bentworth, Faith Christian, Fort Cherry, JFK Catholic, First Love Home school co-op, Charleroi, Ringgold, Trinity (North), St. Madonna Catholic, Burgettstown  and Washington Park. The program is a 10 week course that covers responsibility, Alcohol/Tobacco/Vaping (FACTS/Health Effects), Risk and Consequence, Stress management, Communication skills, Effective listening, Bullying, and how to be a good citizen. We end the 10 weeks with a graduation ceremony for the students that completed the course.
